A Pleasure Place is a celebration of women’s emancipation and sexual freedom.  I wanted to represent the desires that women were told to repress in a patriarchal society for such a long time. I want to show in a beautiful and celebratory way how important it is to know our own body and appropriate it in a healthy way, without accepting sexual stereotypes and false ideas created by pornography and media. The use of flowers and fruits represent the liberated desires in a way that I want to pay homage to the work of female artists that I admire such as Judy Chicago with her work The Dinner Party. I tried to portray various types of women as I hope to be inclusive and embrace diversity even though I did not have access to a variety of models for this work. I hope that with this series viewers will be able to see the beauty of women, feel the celebration of pleasure that is expressed through their bodies, and understand the freedom that every woman deserves to experience.
